One of the best things about travelling to Thailand is the food! You will not be short of delicious meals that cost next to nothing. Although Phuket may not be an expert when it comes to fine dining, street food and casual cafe food is top quality. As food can be so cheap and easy here, tourists much prefer eating out for their meals rather than buying food and cooking themselves. So if you need a break away from the dishes and want to indulge in some authentic Thai cuisine, Phuket is your place to go!
The first place that’s a must visit for any foodie is the Phuket Town night market, on every Sunday evening. They have rows and rows of food vendors serving up delicious authentic (and somewhat questionable) Thai food including mango sticky rice and fried crickets. It may not be everybody’s cup of tea, but if you really want to get in with the local culture, this is your way in.
Street food is the most common way of eating here in Phuket. All along the streets you’ll find mini food vendors and bike carts serving fried rice, chicken curries and Pad Thai’s. With just a side cart on a scooter, you’d be amazed what can be cooked up in minutes. Although it’s a bit rough around the edges and may not be up to everyone’s hygiene standards, it’s some of the most delicious food you’ll find here.
If you are yet to brave the street food culture and prefer to keep things more western, there are tons of cafes in Rawai and Phuket Town with all-day-breakfast and western menus. Here at our SuperNatural restaurant in Friendship Beach, we like to offer a variety of cuisines to suit everyone’s taste buds. So if you want to indulge in a curry or Pad Thai, but your children prefer the classic pizza and fries, we’ve got it all.
If you’re looking to go somewhere extra special and don’t mind spending a bit extra, there are tons of 5* resorts in Kamala, Surin and Laguna, in the north of Phuket, that offer a lavish fine dining experience for those special moments and celebrations.
So if you’re into food and love experimenting with new cuisines and cultures, you’d be sure to love it here in Phuket.
