Once the buzz of Christmas, New Years and Songkran had died down, Phuket goes from a bustling island to a much calmer place. The pace becomes slower, the beaches aren’t as crowded and the roads are nice and clear. Low season in Phuket isn’t everybody’s favourite time of year, but for us we love it. If you’re looking to visit Phuket, here are some of the reasons why low season may be the perfect time for you…
Low season is typically from May – November. School summer holidays are also over this time. So if you’re a family and looking for a place to take the kids this summer, Phuket is your spot. Accomodation is generally cheaper around this time so you’ll be able to get all the best deals for the whole family.
This time in Phuket gives you the opportunity to explore the island without the influx of tourists crowding the beaches and hotels. The worst thing is booking your holiday away thinking you’ll be getting a calming beach getaway, and then realising that tranquil getaway has turned into a hectic holiday. Beat the crowds and get in during the low season to get that peace and quiet you intended for.
Low season in Phuket means surf season! For any budding surfers out there dying to ride the waves, now is the perfect time to do it. Beaches such as Naiharn, Kata and Karon are some of the best spots to hit up those waves. Tip: get down there nice and early for a sunrise surf… it’s one of our favourite ways to start the day.
Although there may be rainy days during the low season, this will give you more time to explore other aspects of Phuket. Some of our favourites include Central Festival shopping mall, Jungceylon cinema, Ice Arena Phuket, the elephant sanctuary, Thai cooking classes… and not to mention all the massage parlours!
So if you thought low season in Phuket isn’t for you, maybe this will have you thinking twice!
